May 25, 2012, Boca Raton, Fl., Dr. Dana Van Pelt – physical therapist, is pleased to announce that Palm Beach Institute of Sports Medicine (PBISM) will be a major sponsor and sports medicine provider for Team Boca Soccer. Team Boca players will now have the ability to receive injury prevention assistance, injury assessment/consultation opportunities, and physical therapy services in order to allow for a safe and rewarding experience in soccer. Additionally, in collaboration with Team Boca, the Palm Beach Institute of Sports Medicine will offer and administer “ImPACT” concussion testing at no cost to Team Boca players. This is a neurocognitive assessment instrument that will assist players, their parents, coaches, and local physicians in determining an athlete’s fitness to return to play following a concussion. This nationally recognized program is used by many professional, collegiate, high school, and club athletic/sports organizations and will illustrate the relevance of head trauma, recognition of head injury, and can improve the appropriate and timely care of this imposing injury for players.
PBISM will also supply an athletic trainer for the Team Boca players during pre-practice times and during select games for injury assessments and consultations. Complimentary injury assessments, return-to-play evaluations, and physical therapy will also be made available on an appointment basis at the FAU location of the Palm Beach Institute of Sports Medicine.
"We are very thankful for this extremely generous contribution by Dr. Van Pelt", said Bill D'Addio, the Director of Team Boca. "Our nation has become much more aware of the detrimental effects of concussions in sports and we are proactively taking steps to ensure that our youth players have the safest possible environment here at Team Boca", said D'Addio.
