
Staff Spotlight: Marcelo Castillo
Coach Marcelo returns as our Boys U16 White Team head
coach in this his third season with Team Boca. A native of Vina
del Mar, Chile, Marcelo calls
Toronto,
Canada his hometown, where he grew up learning the game of soccer.
Marcelo comes to Team Boca with a very impressive resume, having
coached his current group of players to many titles over the past
six years including the 2004 State Cup Championship, 2005 State Cup
Finals, 2003 & 2001 Regional Championships, and culminating with a
Got-Milk National Championship in 2003. Marcelo was also the
assistant varsity coach (to fellow Team Boca Trainer, Darren
Karuzas) at Olympic Heights High School winning the Boys 4-A State
Championship in 2002. Marcelo has also now taken the reigns as Head
Varsity Boys Coach at
Boca Raton
High
School in 2005, where he led them to the District and Regional
Championships being chosen as the Boca News
and
Palm Beach Athletic Conference
Boys Coach of the Year. Coach Marcelo was also a very talented player himself before he
took to the sideline. A member of Canadian under 16 and Olympic
Team player pools as a youth Marcelo represented
Canada
at the 1988 Peace Games in
Indianapolis.
Marcelo also was a NCAA standout at both Coastal Carolina and
Frances Marion Universities, and went on to play professionally with
the Toronto Supra of the Canadian National Soccer League (CNSL). Coach Marcelo holds a USSF National Coaching License
